Description

The latest release of the iBook had 32 VRAM standard across the line.  The 12.1” model had a processor running at 800 or 900Mhz.  The hard drives were available with 30, 40 or 60Gb of hard drive space. The 14.1” model had a 900Mhz processor and a hard drive with 40 or 60Gb of space. Both sizes had either a tray-loading 24x CD-ROM or an 8x 24x 10x 24x DVD/CD-RW.

History

A 100Mhz speed bump on the models that preceded it, this release of the iBook continued with the sub-$1000 price on the low-end model.  The low-end 800Mhz CD-ROM configuration was $999.  The 900Mhz configuration with a Combo drive was $1299.  The 14.1” 900Mhz configuration with a Combo drive was $1499.

  • There was heated debate over many things such as the aesthetics, features, weight, performance, and pricing. To provide good impact protection, the iBook was larger and heftier than the PowerBook of the time, and yet had lower specifications.
